The MG3 was TaylorMade's first wedge to use a Raw Face from the factory, meaning the carbon steel face was left uncoated to rust over time and increase friction between face and ball. Independent testing confirmed the Raw Face produced higher spin than coated alternatives in damp conditions, and the ZTP-17 groove geometry was among the most aggressive available at launch in 2021. The Raised Micro-Ribs between the grooves added an additional friction mechanism that Vokey's design did not match at the same price point.
